The Doctor's Mistress (The Doctor's Wife #3) by Daniel Hurst [Audiobook]

🎙🎙🎙 Narrated by Sarah Durham and Luke R. Francis 🎙🎙🎙

Description from Goodreads:

"The wife. The mistress. Who will get their revenge?

I was the other woman. The mistress. Everyone blamed Doctor Drew Devlin’s death on me. And I’ve paid the price for loving the wrong man.

Now, I have dark circles under my eyes because I can’t sleep at night. I lost everything – friends, family, my home and even my freedom. Drew’s devious wife Fern tore my whole world apart. And she thinks she’s got away with murder.

But she’s wrong. It’s time for revenge. For myself… and for my baby.

Her new life on the windswept Cornish coast is about to come crashing down around her. I’m determined for everyone to find out the true story. Because now it’s not just my life in danger, I’ve got to protect the doctor’s daughter too.

I know Fern will expect me to come after her – I’m certain she will have her own plan in place to stop me. After all, she’s duped so many people before.

But then again, Fern always did underestimate me. And by the time she realises, it’ll be far too late for the doctor’s wife…"

I have read and listened to a number of Mr Hurst's books however, I haven't read any others in this series but I don't feel my listening experience suffered as a result as I quickly became captivated by Fern,  Alice and Tomlin's stories.

With great characters, a steady pace and intriguing plot, this was an enjoyable listen for me with the narrators doing an excellent job of drawing me into the lives and stories of the main characters.

There are some good twists and moments of tension and whilst the ending was unexpected, it was surprising because it was nice!!

Many thanks to the author, Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for enabling me to read and share my thoughts of this intriguing book.

The Couple's Revenge by Daniel Hurst

💥💥💥 Due to be published 04-January-2024 💥💥💥

Description from Goodreads:

"How far would you go to protect your child?

I knew something was wrong. It’s a mother’s instinct.

I could tell when my son started hiding things from me. He used to walk to school with a mischievous grin on his beautiful face. Now he avoids eye contact and keeps his head down.

Since I discovered he’s being bullied by a classmate, I’ve spent every day worrying, my stomach churning with anxiety from the moment he leaves the house to the second he walks back through the door.

Everyone keeps telling me I’m overreacting, but I won’t risk my child’s safety. My husband and I try to talk to the other boy’s parents, but it only makes things worse…

Then our precious child is hurt. Enough is enough. It has to stop. Even if that means taking matters into our own hands.

Because we know the truth about the family targeting our son – it’s not the first time they’ve done this.

So the question is, exactly how far will we go to get revenge?"

📚📚📚📚📚📚

I have read a few of Daniel Hurst's books so knew I would be in for a bit of a treat with this one and I wasn't disappointed.

This is quite a dark story about revenge and how far parents will go to protect their child.  The characters are great, although not all of them likeable, the story is riveting and builds nicely from the start with an unexpected twist at the end.

All in all, a really good thriller that sent me through all manner of emotions whilst reading it and only what I would expect from Daniel Hurst!

Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and NetGalley for enabling me to read and share my thoughts of this dark book.

🎧📚🎧📚🎧📚🎧

"My Daughter's Husband" is a captivating story covering the difficult balance between trust, secrets and the hidden dangers that can disrupt seemingly idyllic lives. The story centres around newlyweds, Ellie and Kyle, whose promising future becomes shrouded in uncertainty as a dark secret threatens to dismantle the happiness they've just begun to forge.

The story kicks off with the happy occasion of Ellie and Kyle's wedding, a day filled with hope and love. This book is full of suspense and tension with the narrators doing an excellent job of bringing the characters to life and is highly recommended to people who enjoy this genre.

Her Husband's Mistake by Daniel Hurst [Audiobook]

🎙🎙🎙 Narrated by Tamsin Kennard and Nathaniel Priestley 🎙🎙🎙

Description from Goodreads:

"A week in New York with my family should be the trip of a lifetime--yet I’ve been on edge the whole time because fifteen years ago, when we were living in this city, my husband did something that ripped our lives apart. I swore I would never come back, but he insisted. As we stroll along the Hudson River, drinking coffee in the sunshine, anyone would think we’re the perfect family. But the truth is far more complicated."

🎧📚🎧📚🎧📚🎧

This is one of those audiobooks that you just have to keep listening to; I found myself hoping for a traffic jam just so I could keep listening so invested I was in this book.

The narrators did a brilliant job of bringing the characters to life and the story was gripping with some great twists and turns.  The characters are well developed and although I didn't particularly like the main characters of Jack and Lorna, it didn't really matter too much.  The pace is steady and overall I was entertained.

Recommended to those who enjoy a pretty good thriller which makes you wonder how far you would go to get revenge and thanks to the author, Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for enabling me to listen to and share my thoughts of Her Husband's Mistake.

The Holiday Home by Daniel Hurst [Audiobook]

🎤🎤🎤 Narrated by Zoë Mills and Richard Burnip🎤🎤🎤

Description from Goodreads:

"The perfect holiday or the perfect nightmare

I sit sipping champagne in the warm water, bubbles frothing around me as I admire the breath-taking view of gorgeous blue skies and mountains. I can’t believe I’m here, at this stunning holiday home. It’s to die for…

My best friend and her husband have invited me and my family to their lakeside property for the weekend, to experience their luxury lifestyle. I’m not envious of their wealth, although I know my husband Ryan is. All I want is to escape from our recent troubles and get my marriage back on track.

Then I overhear Ryan having a whispered conversation late one evening, and he says something that sends a shiver down my spine. In this beautiful paradise my whole world is turned upside down.

Just when I think things can’t get any worse, I discover a second secret. The truth is even more shocking than I imagine, and now I have no idea who to trust.

This was meant to be the perfect holiday, but someone isn’t going to survive it…"

🎧📚🎧📚🎧📚🎧

I have listened to one of Daniel's previous books, The Couple in the Cabin, and really enjoyed it but this just didn't hit the spot for me unfortunately.

Nicola and her family have been invited to spend the weekend with her best friend and her family in their luxurious but isolated cabin in the wilds of Scotland but things soon go awry when Nicola overhears something that turns the idyllic weekend break into a nightmare.

Sounds good doesn't it ... well, it started off well and although I didn't really get on with any of the characters, it didn't really bother me but as the story progressed, it became a little predictable and I wasn't overly surprised or enthralled by how it developed.

The narrators did a great job and did try to bring tension and excitement to the story but, alas, it didn't really work for me but it won't put me off reading or listening to Daniel's books in the future; this one was just didn't work for me unfortunately.

My thanks go to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for enabling me to listen to and share my thoughts of The Holiday Home.

The Couple in the Cabin by Daniel Hurst [Audiobook]

Narrated by Eilidh Beaton and Matt Bates

Description from Goodreads:

"They’ll do anything to get out. She’ll do anything to keep them in.

When happily married Grace comes home early one night and catches her husband, Dominic, with another woman in the cabin at the bottom of their garden, she is shocked, angry, and most of all, hell-bent on revenge. That’s why she acts quickly, locking the pair in the cabin while she decides what she wants to do to them.

While Dominic and his mistress desperately try to get free, Grace makes a plan on the outside, but it’s a plan that is formed based on her previous experiences. That’s because this might not be the first time Grace has done something like this…

Who is the real villain? The cheating husband? Or the vengeful wife?"

🎧📚🎧📚🎧📚🎧

What would you do?  You return home unexpectedly from a work do to find your husband having sex with someone who isn't you in the cabin at the bottom of the garden.  You lock the door and leave them in there don't you?  Well that's what Grace's has done but what now?

This is a fast paced thriller told from the perspectives of Grace and her husband Dominic.  As the story moves on, we learn a bit more about Grace with glimpses from her past and there is definitely more to her than meets the eye.

With great characters, although not particularly likeable, an engrossing story with some unexpected twists and all told by the excellent narrators who really bring the characters and story to life, this was an enjoyable and easy listen and my thanks must go to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for enabling me to listen to and share my thoughts of The Couple in the Cabin.
