A Serial Killer's Guide to Marriage by Asia Mackay [Audiobook]

🎙🎙🎙 Narrated by Georgia Tennant and Kyle Soller ðŸŽ™ðŸŽ™ðŸŽ™

Description from Goodreads:

"The couple that kills together stays together...

Hazel and Fox are an ordinary married couple with a baby. Except for one small thing, they're ex-serial killers.

They had it all. An enviable London lifestyle, five-star travels, and plenty of bad men to kill. Not many power couples know how to get away with murder.

Then Hazel fell pregnant and they gave it all up for life in the suburbs; dinner parties instead of body disposal.

But recently Hazel has started to feel that itch again. When she kills someone behind Fox's back and brings the police to their door, she must do anything she can to protect her family.

This could save their marriage - unless it kills them first."

This was totally unexpected and not what I thought it was going to be but I totally loved it!  What a ride and one that I would very much like to get back on and have another go.  Would I have felt the same had I read the physical book rather than listened to the audio version? I don't know but I actually think the brilliance of the narrators made this book more enjoyable; they were excellent.

From the very first words, I was hooked; I loved the characters, I loved the story, I loved the pacing, I loved the sarcasm and tongue-in-cheek moments ... actually, I loved everything about it and made every excuse to listen to it.  It certainly made my Christmas Day preparations more enjoyable especially peeling the sprouts!!!

Absolutely recommended especially the audio-book and I look forward to reading/listening to more of this author in the future and so much thanks go to her, Headline Audio, Wildfire and NetGalley for enabling me to listen to and share my thoughts of this really enjoyable book.

A Killing in Paradise by Elliot F. Sweeney [Audiobook]

🎙🎙🎙 Narrated by Elliot Fitzpatrick 🎙🎙🎙

 Synopsis from Goodreads:

"A young man has been murdered on the notorious Paradise estate in London. The police have their assumptions; out-of-work private investigator Dylan Kasper, more than familiar with the neighbourhood, has his own.

Kasper takes it upon himself to get to the bottom of the killing. He soon discovers the reason the boy was killed that the police will never find - or want to find. A highly incriminating piece of evidence tying an illegal production company to the government and police alike.

But this is just the beginning. Kasper has made a name for himself getting under the skin of the most brutal killers in the capital. When those dearest to Kasper are suddenly thrust into view, he will have to make an impossible choice. Will the inhabitants of Paradise feel safe at last, if the price must be paid in blood?"

I listened to the audiobook of this novel and, overall, really enjoyed it.  It's dark, gritty and not for the faint-hearted!

I didn't realise this was book 2 in a series but, it didn't matter too much to me as I was able to get into it pretty quickly - not sure what I've missed not reading the first book but it didn't seem to affect my enjoyment of the story.

With great characters, a dark and gritty storyline which is pretty graphic and violent in parts (maybe there should be a warning at the beginning about the subject matter it deals with?), I have to say that I was hooked from the beginning.

The narrator was perfect for the male roles but the females, not so much - maybe use a female narrator for the female parts in future books?  Other than that little gripe, I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to reading more and getting to know Kasper a little better.

Many thanks to the author, Headline Audio, Wildfire and NetGalley for enabling me to read and share my thoughts of this dark and gritty audiobook.

Synopsis from Goodreads:

"WHAT PRICE WOULD YOU PAY FOR THE PERFECT LIFE?

They say you can't always get what you want. But you can take it.

Anna wants a fresh start. She doesn't believe she deserves it, but after three years behind bars she has finally paid her dues. Most of them, anyway.

Lucy craves the attention of the only man she can't have, her alluring Oxford professor. He's married - not for the first time. Maybe she should be next in line?

Marie the recluse has been locked up for too long. She's not ready to be free, but some rules are meant to be broken.

Everyone wants a perfect life. But not everyone is prepared to take it.

Unless someone decides to teach them a lesson."

I found this a very difficult book to stop listening to and ended up hoping for a traffic jam just so I could listen some more!!!

The story follows the lives of 3 woman - all very different and all experiencing difficulties in their own lives mostly of their own making I have to say; there's also a professor with questionable ethics.  It's clear that they are going to come together at some point but it's intriguing to see how and why and I definitely wasn't disappointed.

Written at a good pace, with excellent characters and with a narrator that did a good job, this is a really good book to get your teeth into (or ears if, like me, you listen to the audiobook version) and I will definitely be looking out for more of Harriet Tyce's books in the future.

Many thanks to the author, Headline Audio, Wildfire and NetGalley for enabling me to listen to and share my thoughts of this intriguing book.
